🍗 Smothered Baked Turkey Wings with Soulful Pan Gravy

Cooking Method: Oven baked + stovetop gravy

Focus: Comfort, richness, iron and protein, soul satisfaction

📖 Daily Encouragement Scripture:

"You crown the year with Your goodness, and Your paths drip with abundance."
— Psalm 65:11

👩🏽‍🍳 From Me to You, Sis:

Listen… these turkey wings taste like “I love you” in food form. They’re seasoned to the bone, tender like a testimony, and that gravy? Whew, it’ll have you mopping your plate with a piece of Ezekiel toast and giving God thanks for real food. Perfect for a Sunday dinner, a cozy night in, or impressing your guests with something wholesome and fire.

📝 Ingredients

(Serves 4–5)

For the Turkey Wings

  • 4–5 turkey wings (whole or separated at the joint)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika (smoked or regular)
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp poultry seasoning
  • ½ tsp sea salt (or to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: ¼ tsp cayenne or chili flakes for a lil’ heat
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cups filtered water or homemade broth

For the Gravy

  • Drippings from baked wings
  • 1½ tbsp arrowroot powder or whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup filtered water or more broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

🔥 Instructions

Step 1: Prep & Season

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Clean turkey wings and pat dry. Place in a baking dish or cast iron roaster.
  3. Rub oil all over the wings. Mix dry seasonings and rub generously into the meat—get under the skin if you can, sis.
  4. Scatter sliced onions on top and around the wings.
  5. Pour 2 cups of water or broth into the bottom of the dish (don’t pour over the meat—just around).

Step 2: Bake Low & Slow

  1. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 2 hours.
  2. Remove foil and bake uncovered for an additional 30–45 minutes until wings are browned, tender, and the house smells like blessings.

Step 3: Make That Gravy

  1. Pour off pan drippings into a small saucepan. (Skim excess fat if you want.)
  2. In a bowl, whisk arrowroot or flour with water until smooth. Slowly whisk into hot drippings over low-medium heat.
  3. Simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened (about 3–5 minutes). Season to taste.

Step 4: Smother & Serve

  1. Pour that golden, soul-hugging gravy back over your wings or serve on the side. Garnish with a little fresh parsley if you fancy.

💡 Faith & Wisdom Pocket

This dish is more than food—it’s history, healing, and heritage on a plate. Don’t rush it. Let it bake slow, let the aroma fill your home, and remember that God moves even in the quiet, simmering seasons. Good things take time—just like these wings.

🍋 Bonus Tip:

Pair with baked sweet potatoes, garlic green beans, or sautéed cabbage for the full soul-powered experience. Oh—and save that gravy for tomorrow’s quinoa or rice bowl, too 👀💁🏽‍♀️
